A clean customs entry is mostly preparation done before the shipment arrives, not paperwork scrambled together at the port.
The bond is the thing people forget
A single-entry bond covers one shipment. A continuous bond covers every entry for a year and is worth it once you’re importing more than occasionally, since re-bonding each entry wastes money and time. Confirm which one you actually have before relying on it, first-time importers sometimes assume continuous coverage they don’t have.
ISF timing is strict, not a guideline
Importer Security Filing (10+2) for ocean cargo has to be filed at least 24 hours before the shipment loads at the foreign port, not before it arrives in the US. Miss that window and CBP can assess liquidated damages per violation, separate from any duty owed. Build ISF filing into your process the moment a booking is confirmed, not when the vessel departs.
Run your landed cost before clearance using the landed cost calculator and the US import duty calculator, so the duty and fee estimate here isn’t a guess.
