Searching for an invoice template for Excel usually means one of two things: you want a blank sheet with the formulas already built so you’re not writing SUM() and IF() every time, or you want to fill something in once and get a finished .xlsx out the other end without touching a spreadsheet at all. This page covers both.

Fill in the generator below and click Download Excel to get a finished, formatted .xlsx with your invoice already in it, formulas and all. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc, no conversion needed.

Why an Excel invoice beats a static template for most people

A blank Excel template you download and manually fill in every time still needs you to retype the formulas correctly, format the cells, and remember the tax calculation each invoice. That’s fine for a one-off. It gets old by the fifth invoice.

The generator above skips that step. Enter the numbers once, the totals compute live on screen, and the Excel file that downloads already has the finished figures in it, not a blank sheet waiting for you to redo the math. If you want to reuse the same file as a running template for future invoices, open the downloaded .xlsx, clear the line items, and save it as your own starting point.

What’s actually in the Excel file

The download isn’t a screenshot pasted into a spreadsheet. It’s a real workbook: seller and client details in their own cells, a proper line-item table with description, quantity, rate and amount columns, and a totals block with subtotal, discount, GST (CGST+SGST or IGST, whichever you picked), and the grand total. The amount-in-words line is included too, since that’s expected on Indian invoices and most template generators skip it.

Excel vs Word vs PDF, which one to pick

Excel makes sense when you or your accountant need to edit the numbers after the fact, reconcile it against a ledger, or copy line items into another sheet. If you just need to send something a client can’t accidentally edit, download the PDF version instead from the same tool. Need something a client can annotate track-changes style before approving? Word is the middle ground, same generator, different export button.

GST on the Excel version

The tax logic is identical to the main invoice generator: pick CGST+SGST for intra-state billing or IGST for inter-state, select the rate, and the Excel formulas reflect it in the totals block exactly as shown on screen. If you’re billing GST for the first time and aren’t sure which one applies, the full invoice generator page walks through the CGST/SGST vs IGST distinction in more detail.
